Do you ever come in to browse the shop, and find yourself thinking "I really love that thing, but I should leave it for someone who needs it"?
Please don't leave it.
The success of the shop depends on everyone taking what they want. Having a Donate What You Can model requires a delicate balance of (in this case) yt folks offering reparations for the goods they take home and POC being able to freely receive those reparations in the form of goods.
When you choose to shop at SpeakeasyMpls instead of supporting corporations, those funds keep the doors open and - when we have extra funds - provide an opportunity to purchase more inventory, like the biodegradable hygiene or household products we love to offer. This not only increases our ability to provide free or affordable necessities, but expands our offerings, bringing in more people who will also then freely give and receive abundance through the shop. Beautiful!
So, while a Donate What You Can model does provide the accessibility for folks who need it, please remember that the entire SpeakeasyMpls family needs well-resourced folks to engage without reservation in order to thrive, and in turn, be a resource to help all our neighbors thrive.
